My name is Kinsey Cole and I am a 23 year old artist and writer. I’ve had a passion for anything creative since I was a child and I’ve tried to incorporate some form of art into my life ever since. When I was in high school, I thought I’d grow up to being a “starving” artist through a degree majoring in visual arts. As time went on, I realized that I enjoy creating my own form of art as a hobby because I didn’t like being judged on my artwork. I feel that art is subjective, and I shouldn’t be given a grade on how “good or bad” it is. After coming to this realization, I dabbled in a few different majors from environmental science to marketing. I found these to be interesting, but I had a hard time imagining myself working a career in these fields. I finally landed on Digital Media Innovation. I was intrigued by the wide variety of job opportunities in this degree and wanted to explore it more.
Currently, I am most interested in social media growth and content. It fascinates me how quickly a person or brand can grow because people are consuming more content than ever these days. I took an advanced social media course and I completely enjoyed it. Not only did it fit in with my creative desires, but I was also president of a school club called Blog Club at the time which was based heavily on social media. This all aligned with what I am interested in which is writing, art, and social media. This is why I desire to end up doing something for my career within the scope of working on social media and digital advertising.
I am proud that I am able to work in my career path already as a social media manager of my dad’s granite company. This has been a challenge, but so rewarding. I am still learning how to make the correct content and keep up with the different kinds of social media, but it has been a great experience to help me grow my knowledge. On top of working for True Blue Granite, I also own my own commission based art business. I run it primarily through Instagram and you can find examples of it in the sidebar to the right. More information on that can be found on my artwork page.
I can’t wait to see what my future brings with my degree in Digital Media Innovation and to see my creative skills grow.
